Core Charge Explained

A core charge is a refundable deposit added to the price of certain remanufactured or rebuilt parts. It incentivizes customers to return their old, worn part β€” known as the "core" β€” so it can be remanufactured and reused. This process reduces waste and keeps remanufactured part costs lower for everyone.

Common parts that carry a core charge include alternators, starters, power steering pumps, brake calipers, water pumps, turbochargers, and fuel injectors. The core charge amount varies by part and is clearly displayed on the product page and at checkout.

Install New Part

Remove your old part after installing the new one. Keep it intact β€” do not disassemble or damage it.

  • Core returned more than 30 days after purchase.
  • Part is cracked, broken, seized, or otherwise non-rebuildable.
  • Missing components such as brackets, pulleys, or connectors.
  • Core has been cut, welded, or modified in any way.
  • International orders β€” core charges are non-refundable outside the US.

Packaging Requirements

  • Use the original packaging from the new part whenever possible.
  • Drain all fluids before packaging β€” leaking cores may be refused.
  • Wrap the core in bubble wrap or foam to prevent transit damage.
  • Include your RMA number clearly on the outside of the box.

Refund Details

  • Refund is issued to the original payment method only.
  • Processing takes 5–10 business days after core is received and inspected.
  • Return shipping costs for the core are the customer's responsibility.
  • Partial refunds may be issued if the core is accepted in degraded condition at PartsMB's discretion.

Core returns must be initiated within 30 days of your purchase date. We are unable to accept core returns or issue refunds after this window has closed, regardless of circumstance.

Core Charge Is Separate from the Part Price

The core charge is a deposit collected at checkout and is separate from the price of the part itself. It is fully refunded upon return of an acceptable core. If you do not return a core, the deposit is forfeited.

Do Not Return Without an RMA Number

Cores shipped back without a valid Return Merchandise Authorization number will be refused and returned to sender at the customer's expense. Always contact us first to initiate your core return.

The part you ordered is remanufactured and requires a rebuildable "core" to be recycled back into the supply chain. The core charge is a fully refundable deposit β€” you get it back when you return your old part in acceptable condition within 30 days.

If you do not return a core within 30 days, the core charge deposit is forfeited. We are unable to issue a refund without a core return. If you believe there are extenuating circumstances, contact us at sales@partsmb.com and we'll do our best to assist.

Once we receive and inspect your core, refunds are processed within 5–10 business days. You'll receive a confirmation email when the refund has been issued. Processing times may vary depending on your bank or card issuer.

Yes β€” if you already have the old part removed and want to send it back before or during installation of the new part, that's fine. Just contact us to get your RMA number and return instructions first.

No. Core charges only apply to remanufactured or rebuilt parts where the old unit can be recycled. New OEM and new aftermarket parts typically do not carry a core charge. If a core charge applies to your order, it will be clearly shown on the product page and at checkout.

Unfortunately, core charges are non-refundable on all international orders. The cost and complexity of international return shipping makes core recovery impractical. This policy is displayed on the product page and at checkout before purchase.
